Day 2

DAY 2........................... This day saw us uproot our current site to the correct one, luckily on the same lake so the operation was quick and painless.+ We simply dismantled everything into large pieces and saved ourselves some time and energy buy transporting the site using Jeremy's boat. The alternate site included a large dock which normally would not be there as the docks were damaged during a severe storm and had to be towed inland to this lake for repairs, lucky us!
Once our campsite was reassembled it was time to get to the best part of the trip.......fishing! The fishing poles were set with hooks and jigs, boats were loaded and boarded. In the past we've had little luck in catching fish, not because we are novices or lack the experience found in the likes of Roland Martin or Kaia Larsen, we've just had a run of bad luck. Ok, so it's been about 3 or 4 years of bad luck. That finally changed on this trip.
It took a few days and several bushwhacking routes but we can proudly raise our heads again stop snapping our rods in rage, good thing because it was getting expensive. Matt caught a bass (quickly released as it was not in season) and several other indigenous water dwellers! It would have been nice to catch the delicious pickerel; unfortunately they were just as elusive. We spent the day in the sun and enjoyed the great weather and good food we brought along.
A quick apology to the gang for the noodle mishap once again, so sorry. Let us never speak of it again. The sun set upon us and another day was retired t o our memories.

  2. Oh the great noodle caper...Joe, Joe, Joe in his one and only novice mistake while camping he managed to feed dinner to the local wildlife rather than his fellow campers. Being ever so helpful and full of energy, Joe was cooking dinner, he had thought long and hard about the fare for the evening. He carefully cooked his noodles the day before the trip (day -1 as we call it). He quickly froze them to ensure freshness when he made them for day 2 dinner. What a trooper, Joe, after the full day of moving and then fishing we are unsure if he was in top form. But as it was his duty and the others were into the sauce (not for noodles) he trudged on with his duty. He carefully boiled the frozen noodles just to heat them through. He warmed the sauce, just to the perfect temperature, all he needed was his perfectly cooked noodles. When the noodles were ready to be drained Joe took special care to ensure the water would not touch his fellow campers. Then came is rookie mistake: whilst he was draining the noodles (on a hill no less) he over compensated for the weight of the pot and noodles, lost his hold on the lid, tipping it's contents onto the ground. Now do we think Joe dusted himself off and got back at that stove? No! He hung his head in shame, completely embarrassed by his rookie mistake. He thought of the preparations, the hungry campers, the perfect meal to end the perfect day 2 experience...he could not face his critics. Poor, poor Joe, there is not enough counselling in the world to erase from his memory his next move: He put down the pot and without cleaning up or a word to his fellows he went to his tent and did not return to the group until morning. Never again was this dastardly deed ever spoken of again. Appendix I: in completely related news: the raccoon and chipmunk population in the day 2 area were reported as having an extremely high level of carbohydrates in their diet. Appendix II: donation to Joe's counselling fund can be sent via paypal
